Senior Scientist - Arthropod Control

A Senior Scientist, working in the area of biological control of arthropods:

The Senior Scientist position will form a key element of Evolution’s research and development programme in biological approaches to arthropod control, building on our existing expertise in this field. The work will initially target the house dust mite (HDM) and the bed bug.

The position is intended for a postdoctoral scientist with extensive experience in arthropod culture and pathology, and in virology and/or microbiology. Experience with pathogens of the target species would be advantageous.

The role will involve some supervisory responsibility for work at the company’s laboratory facilities, with contract research organisations and field trial centres in the UK and elsewhere, and liaison with sample collection sites worldwide.

The post will be based in the company laboratories at Colworth Science Park, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire. The postholder will support existing staff and manage the running of this facility, and will work to develop biological control agents and to support field trials of the company’s products.

Travel between company and other locations may be required both within the United Kingdom and elsewhere, along with attendance at scientific meetings. Some out of hours working is likely to be required.

Since the post will involve working closely with field trial centres, experience with good laboratory practice would be an advantage. The post requires excellent written and oral communication skills as well as computer skills relating to data analysis and reporting.

The post-holder will:-

  • Manage the facility and assist in the supervision of staff scientists
  • Conduct development work on biological control agents for target arthropods
  • Report to the Principal Scientist on the arthropod control project, to the Chief Officer and to the Board as required
  • Liaise with external sites, including universities, hospitals and companies
  • Participate in activities related to public, media and investor relations
  • Produce regular reports for internal and external use

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The post-holder will be eligible to join the company share option scheme.

Candidates should be qualified to the postdoctoral level or with equivalent experience.
